Brian Smith
Brian Smith, an Accredited Land
Consultant, Certified International Property Specialist, Broker/Associate,
Ranch and Country Property Division, of Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate - 45
years of farm and ranch real estate.
Brian
is as passionate about country and ranch real estate as he is knowledgeable. He
holds degrees in Earth Sciences and in Business Administration from the
University of North Texas. He has been selling Ranch and Country Properties for
over 45 years and is very well versed with knowledge of soils, grasses, pond
construction and stocking rates, the creation of wildlife/waterfowl habitat and
an understanding of minerals having worked as a drilling fluid engineer for
Halliburton. Other related experiences
include being a breeder of race-bred quarter horses. He also has received the
Accredited Land Consultant (ALC) and Certified International Property
Specialist (CIPS) designations in 1990 from the National Association of
Realtors after years of study. Brian is known to give back to his industry and
share his interests with others.
The
Smith’s 730-acre ranch won the Lone Star Land Steward Award in 2011. This award
is given by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Association for wildlife habitat
enhancement of which Brian oversees at their ranch, “Trinity Bluff Wildlife
Ranch” under a Level III Managed Lands Deer Program (MLDP). The Smith’s also
share their love of the outdoors with school children, grades 1-7 and their
teachers, through the L.A.N.D.S. courses (Learning Across New Dimensions in
Science) in cooperation with the Texas Wildlife Association. Ranch and country
properties have the ability to excite the senses, “The sights, the sounds, the
wildlife in their natural habitat are all exhilarating.” What Brian loves the
most about this category of real estate is seeing that excitement of the senses
come to life by helping buyers and sellers realize what they can do to improve
their land and how to optimize their resources.
In
1992, Brian was President of the State of Texas’ Realtor’s Land
Institute. He currently is serving on the National Association of
REALTORS Land Use Committee (protecting private property rights), and was 2014-2015
NAR Presidential Liaison to Argentina. Brian has served as an expert witness
for court cases involving mineral rights. At the Texas Association of REALTORS, Brian
has also worked with a task force to re-write the mineral reservation addendum.
Additionally, his wife Leslie Rouda Smith, served as the 2012 Chairman of the
Texas Association of REALTORS and recently as the 2022 President of the
National Association of REALTORS.
