A successful agent for the past 35 years, Karen now leads the award-winning Bernardi Group and belongs to the prestigious Coldwell Banker® Society of Excellence, awarded to less than 1% of agents globally. I grew up in Lake Roberts, New Mexico, a small town where the main source of income was cattle ranches, Forest Service, hunting services and mining. At a young age, I worked for the neighboring ranches and guided hunters. I also worked for the Forest Service as a wild land fire fighter and when wild land fire season was at an end, I ran a string of pack horses/mules for them. These jobs gave me an understanding of range management and the dynamics of ranch properties.
I attended New Mexico State University where I took some range, animal science, and real estate classes. Then I had an opportunity to go into partnership on a 54,000 acres ranch lease from the Jicarilla Apache Indian Reservation. My partner and I ran 2000 head of steers which came from Parker, Hawaii. Shortly after that, I married my high school sweetheart, Shay, and moved to Highlands Ranch, Colorado where I decided to train horses full time.
My horse training business led us to Grand Junction, Colorado where I began starting colts for a local rancher. We started a family with the birth of my son, Logan who now loves flying airplanes with his mom. I continued with the horse training business for 10 years and also worked for the Forest Service in fuel management.
I have been personally involved in investing in real estate and when the time was right, I jumped at the opportunity to become a real estate agent. I rely on my past experiences to help my clients with the challenges of identifying their needs and getting through the buying and selling process with ease.
