Mossy Oak Properties
The Mossy Oak Properties network is more than just a collection of people that love to hunt, fish, and spend time in the outdoors. It is a group of proven land specialists that have facilitated tens of thousands of transactions for their clients. Mossy Oak Properties agents are required to complete our 16-week, Certified Land Specialist training program to increase their acumen as a land specialist. Many of our land specialists also have backgrounds in farming, ranching, forestry, and wildlife management, to add another layer of expertise to the service they provide their clients. Our network has been built by teaming up with land brokers that not only live the outdoor lifestyle, but again, mirror the value set you from the Mossy Oak brand. In addition to our land specialists being passionate about hunting, fishing, and conservation, many are likely landowners themselves, meaning they relate to your emotional desire to own land.
Since 1986, the Mossy Oak brand has been built around a value set that includes honor and integrity, and as such, our brand has instant credibility with consumers. As evidence of this, in a recent survey of leading outdoor brands, consumers overwhelmingly recognized and trusted the Mossy Oak brand more than any other brand. At Mossy Oak Properties, we instill these values every day to ensure our land specialists mirror the values of the parent brand in each and every interaction with a client. After all, this business is-and always will be-about relationships.
The Mossy Oak Properties land brokerage network was launched in 2003 and has since grown to over 100 franchised brokerages in 28 states throughout the country. In 2019, the Mossy Oak Properties network closed in excess of 3500 transactions - an average of one transaction every two hours and thirty minutes! The total sales volume sold in 2019 was over $750M, and Mossy Oak Properties currently has an inventory of listings exceeding $3.6 Billion in total and was selected as a national "Best Brokerage" for 2019 by The Land Report and our network also had 42 "America's Best Brokerage" recipients.
To say that Coldwell Banker Realty agent Karen Bernardi has built her business from the ground up is no exaggeration. A tenacious self-starter, Karen juggled the demands of being a working single mom with teaching herself everything she needed to know about real estate. A successful agent for the past 35 years, Karen now leads the award-winning Bernardi Group and belongs to the prestigious Coldwell Banker® Society of Excellence, awarded to less than 1% of agents globally. Having sold more than half a billion dollars over a three-year period, her name is synonymous with the Colorado real estate market.
I grew up in Lake Roberts, New Mexico, a small town where the main source of income was cattle ranches, Forest Service, hunting services and mining. At a young age, I worked for the neighboring ranches and guided hunters. I also worked for the Forest Service as a wild land fire fighter and when wild land fire season was at an end, I ran a string of pack horses/mules for them. These jobs gave me an understanding of range management and the dynamics of ranch properties.
I attended New Mexico State University where I took some range, animal science, and real estate classes. Then I had an opportunity to go into partnership on a 54,000 acres ranch lease from the Jicarilla Apache Indian Reservation. My partner and I ran 2000 head of steers which came from Parker, Hawaii. Shortly after that, I married my high school sweetheart, Shay, and moved to Highlands Ranch, Colorado where I decided to train horses full time.
My horse training business led us to Grand Junction, Colorado where I began starting colts for a local rancher. We started a family with the birth of my son, Logan who now loves flying airplanes with his mom. I continued with the horse training business for 10 years and also worked for the Forest Service in fuel management.
I have been personally involved in investing in real estate and when the time was right, I jumped at the opportunity to become a real estate agent. I rely on my past experiences to help my clients with the challenges of identifying their needs and getting through the buying and selling process with ease.
Jim graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont with an English Department degree in American Literature in 1976. Though not recruited for the ski team, he soon made the traveling team and competed in the Division 1 NCAA Championships three out of four years. One highlight for him was third place in the Eastern Collegiate Championships in Downhill as a freshman. He was also Alpine Ski Team Captain senior year. “Many of my ski racing teammates and competitors have become my lifelong friends.” Some of these ski racing contacts led to sales and marketing work with K2 Skis through 1981.
Adventures with the ski team and then K2 inspired Jim to head West to Colorado. Jim made the move to real estate in 1988. It was a perfect fit. With a wealth of sales experience and a love of Colorado living, selling real estate in the Roaring Fork Valley was a natural progression for Jim. He has been with Mason Morse since 1994 and is consistently one of the top producers in the MLS. In addition, Jim has spent 12 years on the Board of the Aspen Valley Land Trust and was President for 3 of those years. “Volunteering for a non-profit organization that is dedicated to preserving open space was something I jumped at the chance to participate in. I am extremely proud to be part of a group that has preserved thousands of acres here in our backyard.” Jim spends his free time skiing, kayaking, climbing and generally enjoying life in the mountains with his wife and three children.
